May 23, 2021 at 18:27 | comment | added | Wheat Wizard♦ | I've reopened this challenge but the clarifying changes have made nearly every answer invalid. I will delete my own invalid answer, but leave it up to others determine which answers are or are not valid, and inform their owners. If an answer is invalid and it's owner does not choose to delete it in a reasonable timeframe from being informed please flag it for moderator attention and we will handle it.

Test case added for [0, 1, 2] with expected result, and an explanation of why as discussed in the comments.

Is it acceptable to take input as a set if our language has a built-in set type with literal syntax? E.g., {1, 2, 3} in Python. I looked through the list of "convenient methods" but didn't see an answer either way. (Which makes me think it's not acceptable.)

May 21, 2021 at 17:47 | comment | added | caird coinheringaahin g♦ | And, as no one has said it yet, welcome to Code Golf and nice first question! For future reference, we recommend using the Sandbox to get feedback on challenge ideas before posting them to main, which can help avoid having weird edge cases or invalidating answers :)

@chunes Since the number has to be a sum of other numbers, so you can't use a 1 to make the same 1 .

Why is the output for [0, 1, -1] not [0, 1 -1] ? I can get 0 from 1 + -1 , I can get 1 from 0 + 1 , and I can get -1 from 0 + -1 .

May 21, 2021 at 15:20 | comment | added | Wheat Wizard♦ | Also, in general here we prefer to score in bytes not characters, because characters leads to a lot of loopholes. I would recommend switching to this way for normal code-golf.
