Finally, you can probably get get rid of the increment i++ in your for loop and begin your condition by if(v[++i]>[i-1]... in order to gain one character again.

Also, instead of using i and j , you can declare int i; right after the collection and use in is the two loops instead of declaring two variables.

You can use a deque instead of a vector to gain 2 characters.
