@anatolyg Combining with other short opcodes that operate on AL like LODSB , AAM , AAD , INT 10/21H , it could be golfy. For example, this code char bx[] = "qwertyuiop"; al = bx[ al % 10 ]; "get an arbitary character in a string using the rightmost digit in accumulator as index" would be 3 bytes AAM / XLAT . Used here.
