Sorry, the correct reason that your regex version doesn't work is that although there is a c in Unchecked there is also one in Checked , so when you subsitute it you end up with CheCked .

@Neil the regex only replaces the first one (since I'm not using /g flag). The test cases look good to me (cf the TryItOnline link). So I don't really see what you mean...

Your regex version doesn't work because there are two c s in Unchecked .
