If you're curious, my dictionary would be 834 bytes larger if it were base64-encoded. That (plus the 10 bytes from adding |base64 -d ) would easily remove my answer from the leaders' pack, whereas LZMA could radically improve other answers here.

Quotes aren't needed around the initial `$1` because "the input is always a single word, all ASCII `[A-Za-z]`."
