May 9, 2014 at 15:20 comment added Patrick M @ace Technically at least some of what you listed aren't programs that are being called. They're shell built-ins, but I'd agree that gnome-screensaver-command is not an external resource. I would consider it more equivalent to calling an external library in C (like using winsock2.h on Windows)
May 8, 2014 at 18:41 comment added user12205 @Mr Lister so if my bash script uses echo, cat, clear etc., do I need to add their sizes as well? And in fact, since some consider this invalid, I came up with another answer, which I linked to, which does not involve calling a screensaver.
May 8, 2014 at 18:16 comment added Mr Lister But your script does use gnome-screensaver-command, and as the OP says "If you use any external resources (a black image, a GUI file, etc.) their size in bytes is added to your code size." you should add its size.

May 6, 2014 at 19:07 comment added user12205 @hannes karppila I did not change any configuration file that any other program will use. I only started another program, which most bash scripts do (unless written in pure bash)
May 6, 2014 at 19:03 comment added Hannes Karppila "Your source code must be written in a programming language, not just a configuration file some other program (like a screen saver) will use."
May 6, 2014 at 18:49 comment added Darth Egregious That's not really clearing the screen using bash.
May 6, 2014 at 18:33 comment added anon582847382 The kind of answer that makes you think: 'Why on earth didn't I think of that?'. :)
