Oh! I do understand bash a bit to figure it out :-) (What I meant by in my previous comment was: cat is damn useful in certain situations)

@devnull I was tormented about the use of cat here. I know I could have removed it completely, but that would have meant repeating almost identical mapfile commands 3 times. I am using "pretty" to justify this use of cat ;-)
