I meant taking the input as asd\ndef<null byte>123\n456 since otherwise there is not way I know of to distinguish between the inputs in sed
|
|
Mar 17, 2018 at 19:45 | comment | added | Carcigenicate | @Cowsquack As long as nothing shows when printed, sure. I added "visual" to the output specification, then moved that part to the output section. I'm not sure why it was under Input originally.

Mar 17, 2018 at 19:42 | comment | added | user41805 | For sed, is it okay to have the inputs separated by an unprintable like a null byte?
Mar 17, 2018 at 19:42 | comment | added | Carcigenicate | @Cowsquack Yes, fixed. I also added an Output note though that trailing whitespace is optional, since that seems to be pretty common for ascii art challenges.

Mar 16, 2018 at 17:07 | comment | added | Carcigenicate | @Shaggy Oh, yes, I worded that comment poorly. Ya, the input can be a sequence of arts as listed in the specification. The arts themselves must be single strings though.
Mar 16, 2018 at 17:06 | comment | added | Shaggy |
So we can't take input as an array of 2 newline-delimited strings either, then? e.g., ["abc\ndef","123\n456"]
|
|
Mar 16, 2018 at 17:02 | comment | added | Carcigenicate | @Shaggy No. I decided originally to limit the input/output to newline delimited strings so there's actually a challenge here to do. I think the challenge is already easy enough.

Mar 16, 2018 at 16:37 | comment | added | Carcigenicate | @Adám I think I'll say no since that would be changing the art beyond what the challenge requires.
Mar 16, 2018 at 16:19 | comment | added | Adám | @Carcigenicate I mean that my output has an additional column of whitespace on the far left.

Mar 16, 2018 at 15:55 | comment | added | Carcigenicate | @Adám What do you mean? The arts may contain leading whitespace. They could be all whitespace in theory.

Somehow my reference implementation produces an output for the second test case that looks right when printed, but is missing a space before the "a". No idea what's going on there, but I fixed the test case.
|
Mar 16, 2018 at 15:31 | comment | added | Carcigenicate | I'm gonna say no given that would kind of ruin any art.

Can we use a custom delimiter instead of newlines? i.e. "|" or " " ?
