@Pavel $" is a legit Perl variable, but the syntax highlighting doesn't know about it, that's why it looks like that. Ok, I'll delete the comment about unreachable spaces.

Dec 14, 2016 at 14:52 | comment | added | Pavel | I don't really know perl, but looking at the syntax highlighting you appear to have an unmatched quote in ($")x$=**2);. Out maybe the highlighting doesn't work right and that's a feature. Also, whitespace can be unreachable. | |
