On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Hi everyone, I'm Jo King.

I've been active on this site since late 2017, after I got interested in esolangs like Befunge-93 and brainfuck, and this community has introduced me to so many more. I really enjoy the atmosphere of CGCC and hope that by becoming a moderator I can encourage new users to engage while helping handle spam and other issues.

Hello! My name's HyperNeutrino. I've been a member of this site since 2015 (my profile doesn't reflect this - you can check my reputation history to see that I've been around since at least 2015 - it's a bit of a long story).

Reasons why I believe I would be at least a decent moderator:

  • I've contributed in a couple of meta discussions, including a community-building event that lasted for a brief period
  • While I have been on a semi-hiatus for a good amount of time (by which I mean, I still visited chat rooms occasionally and solved a challenge or two every now and then), I have experience with this community from the several years of near daily activity and active participation on meta and chat rooms
  • I believe I can help shape an inviting community and environment for new and all users and do the required work to keep the site healthy and regulated

Since it seems like there is a dearth of candidates this time around, I may as well throw my hat in the ring.

I have been participating here on and off for the past four years. I'm not very good at code golf, but I do enjoy it. I would not like to see this site die from lack of moderation.

My questionnaire response

Why me:

  • I have been a moderator on Physics SE for about a year and a half, so I have experience with moderating a much larger site
  • Even before becoming a moderator, I was very active in reviews on Physics SE
  • I am a warm body who's willing to help with moderating this site

Why not me:

  • I have low reputation
  • I have been, to put it mildly, not especially active on meta

Hello, I am Wheat Wizard.

I was introduced to this site in 2016 by DJMcMayhem and its been my hobby since. I am volunteering to be a moderator because I love this site and I think we need more moderators.

If you want to get an idea for my commitment to site moderation I currently have done the most reviews in all six of the six categories and I am not slowing down. I care a lot about this site and I'm willing to put in the janitorial work to keep it running.

Hello, I'm caird coinheringaahing

I've been around for 3 and a half years and have been a familiar face here for most of that time.

I'm one of the primary reviewers on the site, (at time of writing) the only user to be one of the last 6 reviewers in all 6 review queues, something I always aim for. I'm a prominent editor, with the second most edits this year and the most by far for this quarter and month.

My questionnaire responses

Why Me

  • I'm very active on all parts of the site, Main, Meta and Chat, so I'm easily reachable
  • I've a lot of experience using the user mod tools, so the moderator tools shouldn't be unfamiliar to me
  • As I'm sure multiple people can attest to, I've got a lot of practice introducing new users to the site, especially those who start with questions and don't know about the Sandbox.

Why Not Me

  • Although it was 3 years ago, I've had a slightly checkered past with the site, netting myself two suspensions
  • I still have a lot to learn about moderating and, at times, I've been known to be unprofessional when interacting with users while in a moderating role (e.g. review)

This election is over.
